Plan a Landmark Summer Vacation

The Four Major Differences Between A Hotel And Motel

If you are planning a vacation, you may stumble across a number of different places where you can stay. For example, there are motels, hotels, lodges, and more. You may find that hotels and motels appear to be pretty much the same. However, there are quite a few differences that may help you distinguish between the two and see why choosing a motel may be best for you in the end. Here are the four major differences to spot:

  1. Design: Right away, you can spot the difference between a hotel and motel by the design. Hotels are usually large buildings that consist of hundreds of different rooms. A motel is much more simple with one or two floors with a limited number of rooms. This is more beneficial in the fact that you can have easy access to your vehicle. This is definitely ideal if you plan on being in and out for most of your trip and if you only basically need a place to sleep.
  2. Staff: The staff is also going to be extremely different between hotels and motels. The staff at a motel simple consists of a front-desk clerk, which typically tends to be the owner of the builder, if not at least someone who was directly hired by the owner and possible a couple of housekeepers. Whereas a hotel consists of a large number of staff people, such as the receptionists, managers, gift shop employees, and maids. The benefit of a much smaller staff is that you know immediately who to go to if you have any problems or questions.
  3. Location: Another difference is that motels tend to be located near freeways instead of directly in major cities like hotels. The reason you may choose a motel over a hotel for this reason is because you only plan on staying for a night and then heading out back onto the freeway in the morning to continue your travels.
  4. Services:  Hotels provide a wide range of services whereas a motel may provide breakfast and a swimming pool. The benefit of this is that you don't have to pay additional costs for a room to make up for the many services that are provided at a hotel. Instead, you are basically only paying the cost of having a place to sleep, which is significantly more affordable.

When you know these four major differences between a hotel and motel, you can be sure that you see why a motel may be more beneficial to you in your travels.
